The Meaning of Desire, according to Marcello Cicchini
What I mean by “getting rid of (indirectly) as soon as possible” is that we focus most of the time on the subject to pursue. The desire force is there, but we focus on the fact that we’re incomplete without the thing we want.
So, the desire ends when we get what we desire. Many of us do it unconsciously…
In other words, feeling desire implies that you’re not getting yet what you want and in those terms we want if to end.
The only difference between each people is in the intensity of the pain that this inflicts.
Focusing on the missing thing in our lives, especially when we compare ourselves with other people that already have what we want, can be very painful. Mostly if we that we’re not worthy enough.
This is obviously an compulsive belief. Nobody is less than others and everybody can define what they are, freely. Each and every one can describe themselves and walk their lives in that direction.
Now, hold in mind whatever desire you can feel right now. I am sure that everybody feels a desires all the time.
Choose one of them and feel its tension. Feel its energy. See the object of your desire within the desire itself. Notice how beautiful the things you desire, inside the emotion of desire, are.
I imagine a desire like it was a rubber band you hold in your hands. Imagine if you hold one end and stretch the other end. One end is “you” and the other end is what you want. The harder you pull this rubber band, the farther you separate these two ends, the more pulling energy is stored in this rubber band.
What if instead of a rubber band, you have an instrument string. It needs that tension all the time. A piano or a guitar string or a violin string…
We all are in this life existence because of this.
We are not here to complete tasks and then die. We all are here to ride waves that are formed because of the opposition of two forces; the wave you’re riding and the wave before it that is coming back from the shore.
There’s a contrast of forces below that shapes each wave the way we know them.
An airplane takes off despite the force of gravity, because, when it reaches a certain speed on the runway, a difference of pressure between the top and bottom of the wings, increases. The airflow is cut in half as the wings attack it. When that difference exceeds the weight of the aircraft, it starts detaching from the ground.
Negative pressure is generated on the top of the wings, and that keeps the aircraft in the air. You can imagine a vacuum effect on top of the wings, pulling the whole aircraft up.
Think about this… when the aircraft levels to a constant altitude, at that point that negative pressure on top of the wings equals the whole weight of the aircraft.
Desire IS the difference of pressure that keeps us on flight.
I believe that contemplation is a different way to explain gratitude.
Contemplating desire, letting it be, witnessing it, being quiet in its presence can explain the feeling of gratitude.
